Our sampler has at its heart an algorithm that selects a simple random sample from all individuals in the popualtion that have the characteristics that you desire. The construction of the sampler was carried out by Gwyn Morfey of InSite Web Design.
Using the sampler there are many many things that can be done to aid student learning of statistical concepts and practices. More examples will appear in the learning materials section over time.
To define the characteristics you desire, simply use the drop down boxes and select the characteristic you desire. It is important to note that if a group of people choose the same characteristics the samples that they receive are highly likely to be different samples.
The sample data will be returned to your computer promptly as a '.csv' file. This file will open through MS Excel and the data can then be analysed in Excel or the numeric data can be tranferred to a Graphic Calculator or the like.
Each column in the data sheet has a heading, some of which are coded, to understand the headings, download the file columntitles.pdf.
Our thanks go to both IBM and Adelaide University for their support in mounting our sampler. IBM donated the use of the required hardware while Adelaide University have donated their time and expertise.
